About

Living Practices was founded by two practitioners of Chinese Medicine, Roberto and Helen, to offer a thorough, individualised approach in a comfortable, warm environment. We offer acupuncture, Tui Na (Chinese therapeutic massage system), cupping therapy, Gua Sha, moxibustion and paediatric acupuncture and practices. We integrate techniques and tools when appropriate, using a holistic Chinese Medicine approach.

What is Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is an ancient medical practice that promotes balance of the physical, energetic and spiritual aspects in human beings. Through the practice of Acupuncture, Tui Na massage, Cupping, Gua Sha, Qigong, Moxibustion, Herbs and Dietary Therapy, Chinese Medicine works on the person as a whole by removing blockages and pathogens, and nourishing the deficiencies.

Conditions Treated

The World Health Organisation lists a wide variety of conditions and disorders for which acupuncture therapy has been tested in controlled clinical trials. In 2003 WHO published a review of the trials recognising 28 diseases, symptoms, or conditions for which acupuncture has been proven to be effective. Since 2003 many more clinical trials have taken place to show the effectiveness of Acupuncture. Learn more at acupuncture.org.uk

Personal

I cultivated my interest for complementary medicine through the practice of Qigong (energy work) and on-going self-studies in complementary therapies.

I practice Acupuncture with an integrated approach that combines techniques such as TCM/Channel Theory and 5 Element Acupuncture, along with the Balance Method. In my practice I often integrate (as necessary) Tui Na massage, Gua Sha, Cupping, Moxibustion.

Personal

I have previously studied and worked in the arts and business sectors, as well as working with charities on a variety of projects.Over time, my compass in life led me to helping people in one way or another. My first few encounters with acupuncture many years ago made such a remarkable impression on me that I decided to learn the “language of Chinese Medicine”. It has been a joy and an honour to be a part of people’s life journeys with them, giving them pain relief, stress relief, and providing an opportunity for them to be in a space where they are taken care of. I enjoy treating with an integrated approach which involves some form of body work alongside acupuncture, such as Tui Na, acupressure, some reflexology or massage alongside other necessary tools.

As members of British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), we adhere to the code of professional conduct, ethics and professional development.

Services

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the main practices of Chinese Medicine. Its history goes back to thousands of years and it is widely used in China alongside Western Medicine. With insertion of fine needles into the body, Acupuncture aims to restore the energetic balance through a complex of channel systems, activating the body’s own healing response in order to alleviate pain, ease tensions and treat various health conditions. Acupuncture aims to promote changes on a different energetic level of the human being, where the disconnect from the nature of today’s life creates unbalanced conditions.

Cupping

Small warmed jars that generate a suction effect are placed on the skin surface, drawing up congestion and stagnation from deep within the body, releasing locked tension and encouraging detoxification.

Tui Na

Tui Na is part of the Chinese Medicine, it is a therapeutic medical massage and body work used to treat patterns of disharmony.

Moxibustion

Dried Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) is used to warm channels, points or regions of the body. This practice is believed to be older than acupuncture. It is used to warm and nourish the body. It can be used directly on the skin, on the needle or as a moxa stick.

Gua Sha (Scraping)

Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique used in Asia to address muscular pain. By scraping the body with a Gua Sha tool we promote the regeneration of the local tissue and the release of the stagnation or heat causing the pain.

Paediatric Acupuncture (From babies to teenagers)

Chinese Medicine is a safe and gentle way of addressing your child’s health issues, used by Chinese medicine practitioners for hundreds of years. This versatile therapy can be used for a variety of conditions and is adapted to your child entirely. In addition to acupuncture, we also use needle free techniques such as warming moxa, very gentle cupping, press seeds, paediatric Tui Na (Chinese therapeutic massage), Shonishin (Japanese techniques), and a low level laser pen which applies a small quantity of therapeutic light to an acupuncture point. It is our focus to make the children feel safe and supported during the treatments, while assessing, diagnosing and gently correcting the bodily imbalances.
